A work visa is usually issued for a period of one year. The visa extension should be initiated at least one month before the expiration date. Otherwise, the foreign employee will need to leave Kazakhstan and apply for a new visa through the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the place of permanent residence. When applying for an extension, migration authorities require the original passport, which remains with them for the entire period of consideration (on average 5-10 business days). During this period, a foreign citizen does not have the opportunity to travel to other regions of the country.
